  Neighbourhood Satellites Thesis Project Environment Sensing Adventures in the City.

My Masters thesis project at Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, completed in June 2005.

To make the detection of local environmental conditions an engaging activity, this thesis integrates mobile game play with grassroots air sensing.

UNESCO toys workshop in Armenia
Toys for children’s rehabilitation

During this two week workshop we visited different childcare facilities in Yerevan to develop new toys for children with special needs.

The symposium, workshop and exhibition were a joint effort of Studio-College of the National Aesthetics Center, the Soros Foundation’s Open Society Institute (OSI), World Vision Armenia, Fördern durch Spielmittel – Spielzeug für behinderte Kinder e.V. (Toys for Children’s Rehabilitation) and UNESCO Armenia.

Our food is travelling to reach us, and the environmental costs of these journeys are adding up. F.R.U.I.T. researches why we don't know where our food comes from, with reports on local food movements and proposals for local agriculture in cities.

At the exhibitions, you can visit a F.R.U.I.T. stand, see our community, and take away F.R.U.I.T. wrappers and posters.

A collaboration with Amy Franceschini and Nis Roemer as Free Soil.

For "Beyond Green: Towards a Sustainable Art", touring US galleries through 2007.
 

Learning Tree

Through the Learning Tree leaflets, people of Chicago's Midway Plaisance, Eaglewood and Woodlawn districts were asked to share what they know with their neighbours. Fragments of knowledge, expertise, and identity within the community became locally published, such as cooking recipes, chemical formulas or tree information for the benefit of other passersby.

The Global Warming Tracking Network
For Telecom Italia's Future Centre

This is a concept where people offer the idle time of their cell phones to compute changes in global climate. Together with an additional information service for posting wishes, they can stay in touch with events related to global warming.
 

Great Park Project

El Toro, a former military base in Orange County will become the biggest public park of the United States.

As Artist in Residence at Future Farmers, I created proposals and surveys together with Amy Franceschini to integrate the local community in the discussion about the future of this area and the considerations of this major transformation.
